Locations
Intro
Locations lists every Shopify location of the store and keeps the settings ShipManta needs per location. The first setting is the bin metafield: which product or variant metafield holds the bin for items picked at that location. More per-location options will land on the same page over time.
Open Advanced → Locations. Nothing on this page changes Shopify — the locations themselves are read from your store.
Purpose
- A store with two warehouses keeps two bins per product (e.g.
retail_bin_locationandbin_location) and wants the pick list to show the bin of the warehouse it is printed for - Printing for All locations should show both bins, each labeled with its location, instead of one bin for everything
- Locations that do not keep their own bin (a dropship partner, a supplier) stay on the default bin and print as before
The page
Each Shopify location is a row. Click a row to open its settings. The header shows the location name, a short summary of what is configured (e.g. Bin: retail_bin_location), and badges for Primary, Not in Shopify, or Unsaved.
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Bin metafield | The product or variant metafield that holds this location's bin. Default bin = no mapping; the row keeps the bin it prints today |
Prints as is the short name — the text before | in the location name, e.g. Retail for Retail | Main Street. Item labels and bin lines use it.
The bin dropdown lists the product and variant metafield keys already synced for the store. Type a key to add one that has not synced yet (letters, numbers, ., -, _). Save writes only the rows you changed; Reset discards edits. More per-location settings will appear in the same expand over time.
How it prints
The Location dropdown in the print dialog decides which bin a pick-list row shows:
| Location picked at print | Bin column |
|---|---|
| A location with a mapping | That location's metafield value. Falls back to the default bin when the product has no value for it |
| A location without a mapping | The default bin — unchanged behaviour |
| All locations | One line per mapped location that has a value, each prefixed with the short name (Retail A-12, Online B-07). Rows with one bin print as a single value |
Rows that were already split per fulfillment location (see Documents → One row per fulfillment location) use their own location's bin even on All locations.
The default bin is what Documents → Bin location on pick lists describes: a synced bin metafield alias, then a line-item custom field whose name contains bin.
Packing slips, invoices and pickup slips are not affected — they do not print bins. Documents are not re-rendered: the mapping applies on the next print.
Templates
Seeded pick lists (Picking List, Batch Pick List, Order Pick List and the Pack + Order variants) are updated to print per-location bins automatically. In your own templates use:
{{ bin_location }}— the single bin for the row (per the table above){{# has_multiple_bins }}{{# bins }} {{ location_short }} {{ value }} {{/ bins }}{{/ has_multiple_bins }}— one line per mapped location on All locations; eachbinsentry haslocation,location_short,keyandvalue
The Bin per location snippet in the template editor's helper menu inserts both branches ready to use.
Who can use it
An Enterprise feature. Permissions View location settings and Manage location settings (admins get both; managers can view). The AI assistant, with the Core module, can list the mapping (core_list_location_settings) and change it (core_update_location_settings) — changes come back as a preview you confirm. With the Operations module and Manage documents, it can read a template and save a new body (operations_get_document, operations_update_document). That is how a fixed bin cell gets replaced with the per-location block: the assistant edits the HTML and shows you the before and after before anything is saved.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| The bin column did not change after mapping | The document was printed before you saved, or the template is a custom one that still prints a fixed {{ metafields.bin_location }}. Switch it to {{ bin_location }} or the Bin per location snippet |
| A product shows the default bin for a mapped location | The product has no value in that metafield. The renderer falls back to the default bin rather than printing - |
| All locations shows one bin only | Only one mapped location has a value for that product — a single value prints without a label |
| The key I need is not in the dropdown | Only synced metafield keys are listed. Type the key to add it; the next product sync picks up the values |
| A location is missing from the list | Shopify did not return it (see the yellow banner). Reload once the store connection is back |
